These stories were featured in Jacob and Heather Lambrecht's most recent missionary newsletter. The Lambrechts serve in Davao, Philippines, where they have regular opportunities to evangelize and teach the Bible to their neighbors and community. Our relationship with our landlord’s family has grown. Our Sunday devotions with them have focused on God’s grace, love, and forgiveness. These themes resonated with Lovely, our landlord’s oldest daughter, so much that she wanted to bring this message to her workplace. She runs an occupational therapy center in Davao and had been telling her coworkers all about our Sunday devotions. Lovely extended an invitation to us to present a devotion at her business on a Sunday morning and we excitedly accepted.
On this particular Sunday we celebrated the three-year anniversary of the therapy center. The day included the filming of a promotional video, our devotion, plenty of food, and a party at an agro-tourism farm nearby (with more food!). Our family gathered together with Lovely and her family, her coworkers, and Heather’s two sisters (who just happened to be visiting us) - about twenty-five people in all.
The theme of our devotion was “patience.” We emphasized that our patience with others grows when we recognize God’s patience with sinners like us.
He doesn’t send us immediately to hell but is patient with us, not wanting us to perish but to come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). Each day God picks us up, forgives us, and sends us into a world filled with his blessings.
The day was wonderful. Our hosts treated us like royalty, and we were thrilled to be able to share Jesus.
Another teaching opportunity
Heather and I (Jacob) also had an opportunity to lead a Bible Study on relationships.
Some friends of our teammates were very interested in this subject. Being that most of
them are single and in their early 20s, this seemed like a good opportunity to lay the
groundwork for dating, marriage, family life, and the roles of men and women. We have
never led a Bible Study on this topic before, so much prayer and practice accompanied
our preparation. About ten of us gathered together on a Saturday night to dig into God’s
Word. The plan is to continue this study monthly. But for now, we are very grateful to
God for another opportunity to share Jesus.
